March 2005
The first scene designed around my AT-AT model. This scene is a sort of alternative interpretation of the Battle of Hoth, there are a few subtle (or not-so-subtle) references to the way the battle plays out in The Empire Strikes Back. This was rendered in Lightwave 7.5 and makes use of the spinning lights trick for soft shadows. The desk texture is completely procedural, making use of texture layering and procedural alpha channels to make it look like wood. While the scene took only a few days to do, the AT-AT model itself took me forever to finish, due mostly to procrastination during my work term when I had a chance to work on it. The textures took up an inordinate amount of time, because I had the bright idea of painting all 147 of them at high resolution. I'm not totally satisfied, but I don't want to spend too much time to fix them.
