The Defiant

September 1998

Even though I don't like Deep Space Nine, the Defiant is a pretty cool ship. So at some point, I decided to build it in trueSpace. This scene was rather interesting to make. I think it's the first time I really composited different scene elements together. The glowing warp trail (warning: incorrect Trek terminology used - “ion trail” is the right word) was made using two cones that were rendered in a separate pass. I'm completely clueless as to how I made the star streaks and the wormhole walls though. I just don't remember. I think the glows on the deflector and the front of the engines were painted on in Photoshop.
